Making SPACE! A NEW Professional Development Programme and Residential Retreat

Do you lead or teach music, art, dance or drama in Somerset? Are you a non-specialist teacher wanting to unlock creativity for staff and pupils? A SENCO looking for inclusive creative approaches? If the answer is yes then this is an invitation to expand your creative horizons and enjoy some timeout to learn and share with peers in beautiful surroundings.

With the generous support of Wick Farm, Spaeda introduce 'Making SPACE', a programme of creative workshops and networking events to support the well-being and continued professional development of educators, arts teachers and artist teachers.

"It is such a lovely opportunity to be creative in a wonderful venue, to share with others and to discover new ideas and approaches"

It runs from Monday 12th June – Sunday 2nd July 2023 at Wick Farm near Langport. A creative haven in Somerset with a beautiful 16th century farmhouse that sits within amazing gardens filled with a mix of eclectic accessories and artistic ephemera. The grounds range from formal areas through to secluded woodland and include areas for contemplation and healing using the natural world as inspiration.

The Making SPACE programme includes a menu of events to pick and choose from: short after school workshops; all day events to get your teeth into the creative process; residential time to relax with others; friendly artists’ critique sessions, seminars and talks.

All workshops and events will be led by expert arts educators who understand the importance of staying in touch with your own creative practice.

Residential Retreat

Alongside our programme of creative workshops, SPAEDA are offering short overnight stays at Wick Farm to support the well-being and continued professional development of school staff and artist teachers.

Subsidised residential places for arts subject teachers and leaders are available between Tuesday 13th June – Sunday 2nd July 2023 through a unique partnership between Spaeda and Wick Farm.

Book your place during Making SPACE and experience Wick Farm, a beautiful garden and farmhouse with creative workspaces near Langport for only £25 per night.

Making SPACE aims to build a community of practice for creative education leaders in Somerset, bringing back the residential experience and providing a space to reflect and learn together. Making SPACE will inspire you, build your skills and confidence in subject leadership and give you the space to reconnect with your creativity.

During your stay at Wick, you will have the opportunity to meet with art educators and artists in the region, have time to work on your own creative practice with as much guidance as you need, take part in events, workshops and seminars and enjoy some freedom and relaxation exploring Wick’s gardens, meadows and woodlands.
