Artsmark Gold school, Eastover Primary, have put on another inspiring and inclusive Arts Week as the whole school, including parents/carers and teachers, got involved to celebrate the arts.
This year artist, Scott Walker, visited Eastover Primary School to help create a mural based on fantasy creature drawings, designed and made by the pupils during various artist lead workshops, "the artworks were created in a very collaborative process, with students working across all areas of the multi panelled mural" says artist Scott Walker, "it is important to me that the processes of making the artwork foster creative freedom and exploration, while remaining respectful to each others involvement."
Eastover Primary School Art Coordinator, Laura Weall, says "each Arts Week we try and get something that will last in our school, that the children will help design and create". In 2020 SPAEDA artist and wood carver, Karen Hanson, aided the school in designing and creating a 6f totem pole, as well as a story chair and benches. Last year SPAEDA artist, Fiona Campbell, visited Eastover working with groups of children during the art week to produce a wall mounted relief celebrating ocean life, fashioned by recycled materials.

What is Arts Week?
Arts week can help enhance the arts in your school and teach your pupils valuable art and design skills. It's an opportunity for whole school engagement, giving every student a chance to express themselves creatively and work together collaboratively.
During Arts Week schools are encouraged to plan and provide art activities and events leading up to a final collaborative production, like a musical performance or a piece of art that sits within the school. Working alongside artists and art educators helps progress the learning further and offer pupils and example of what creative careers may look like.
"Arts Week is a great opportunity for the children to show of their arts skills...it enhances the arts having those artists here working alongside us" - Michaela Hoppins, Art Coordinator
