Noah's Story

Hi, I'm Noah. I'm 15 years old and I come from Kingsmead school in Wiveliscombe. I have been working at Spaeda in Hestercombe for the past week for my work experience. I chose Spaeda as my place to work as I am considering a future career path using graphic design or photography. Spaeda has taught me how to use both of these techniques while I have been here. Also, as Spaeda is based in Hestercombe, I have been spending my lunchtimes in the beautiful gardens and sketching my surroundings.

Over the short period I have spent at Hestercombe gardens working with Spaeda, I have learned many new skills which include:

  • Using a DSLR camera to take photos of the gardens and artwork for the Sketchbook project

  • Using an app called iMovie to produce a 4 minute video of artwork for the Switchbook project

  • Creating a bulletin for Spaeda on MailChimp which will be uploaded to their website, www.Spaeda.org.uk

  • Photoshopping images I have taken to make them appear brighter

  • Documenting events and information on Lamplight

  • Using Canva to create a poster using photos I had taken of Hestercombe gardens on the first day

Of all these useful skills I have been taught, my favourite thing I have done this week was creating a video for the Sketchbook 2022/23 project. It was challenging and took some time but the final outcome was definitely worth it.

My work experience here at Spaeda has not only given me an understanding of what it is like to have a job, but it has also taught me key skills that i will need in the future if I am to pursue a career of photography and graphic design. Working here has also increased my social skills as I have only been here a week and have met two incredibly friendly colleagues and have grown more confident in talking to them over the past five days.
