Taking inspiration from different outdoor environments and introducing land artists Richard Long and Andy Goldsworthy, our associate, Natasha Rand, takes you on a walk through the heritage gardens at Hestercombe.

The film and accompanying resource here are specifically designed to support the art and design programme of study for Early Years and Key Stage 1.

 

With links to numeracy and literacy, this resource demonstrates adaptable arts activities for outdoor learning and models creative approaches that will help you maximise any school trip.

Understanding Land Art Key Stage 1-4

From her garden and studio, artist, Liz Gregory, demonstrates creative approaches to collage and sculpture and refers to land artists through history including Andy Goldsworthy, Robert Smithson and Richard Long.

The film and accompanying resource here are specifically designed to support the art and design programme of study at Key Stage 3 but can be adapted for younger or older students.

 

Modelling a response to Richard Long’s ‘Jackdaw Line’, commissioned by Hestercombe in 2020, the resource will help you support students to work together to make their own land art for the school grounds, using found materials in response to a mapped or memorised walk.

 

Extension activities take drawing and collage further using mixed media and materials, such as rubbings and photographs, generated through students’ research processes.
