Project details: Gumboot dancing originated in the mines during apartheid in South Africa. The workers made music with the only things available to them: their voices, hands, and rubber wellies. This dynamic and powerful dance style consists of rhythmic slaps, claps, stomping and singing. The pupils learn various gumboot steps and moves and hear about the origins and cultural development of this dance. I can also teach them a South African song.

Project details: To explore a range of dance styles from around the world. Choose from many different styles including: Morris, Bhangra, Bollywood, Belly dance, Line dance, African, Salsa, Native American dances and Lindy Hop. Viv will teach the dances at an age appropriate level introducing the social / cultural / geographical context of each dance taught. There will be an option to create a final performance.

Viv will provide an opportunity to extend kinaesthetic and experiential learning by facilitating movement-based role play and discussion in a fun, inventive and physical approach. Viv has a wealth of previous experience in issue-based work, including projects relating to bullying, poverty, recycling, Anne Frank and many more.
