Shakespeare's Globe On Tour

The Comedy Of Errors

Vivary Park, Vivary Road, Taunton, TA1 3JW

Tuesday 6 - Saturday 10 July, 7.30pm (Sat mat 2pm)

You don't have to go all the way to London to see some of the best Shakespeare the country has to offer.

Following the phenomenal success of last year's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare's Globe return to Taunton with The Comedy Of Errors.

Follow the hilarious story of two twin Merchant sons, both given the same name of Antipholus, and two twin pauper sons, also both of the same name, Dromio. Due to the unlikely coincidence of two pairs of twins being born on the same day, Egeon, the father of the Merchant twins, purchases both Dromio twins, so that each of his sons could have their own personal slave. While on their way over seas, the family ship was hit by a tempest and the family was torn apart. Egeon, one son and one slave were saved by one rescue ship. His wife, other son and other slave were saved by another. The two halves of the family never saw each other again.

The comedy begins when the boys, now grown up, decided to leave town in search of their mother and twin brothers. Now, all in the same town, but unaware of each other's presence, there is a realm of hilarity as false accusations, mistaken identities and confusion spiral out of control. Unable to believe such mayhem could occur on its own accord, the townspeople only assume that a witchcraft spell has fallen upon them, leading to the madness escalating even further and imprisonment and capital punishment charges being proclaimed at every opportunity.

What will happen to the perilous four? If only they could all be in the same room at the same time, things would become a lot clearer...

This authentic production is staged outside on an Elizabethan inspired stage, performed by eight travelling actors, giving you a unique chance to experience Shakespeare's theatre as it was originally performed.

It's not just the show that makes this Shakespeare in the park such an enjoyable event, it's the whole evening. Enjoy a summer's evening as you find your spot on the grass, lay out your picnic rugs or deck chairs and enjoy the company of your friends as you wait for the show to start.

Every Globe production opens to international critical acclaim, and last year's touring production of A Midsummer Night's Dream was "Outdoor theatre at its finest" THE STAGE.

Don't miss it this year's The Comedy Of Errors.
