A Big Brash Exhibition of New American Art Scene

Bristol’s City Museum & Art Gallery & Corey Helford Gallery present

15 May – 22 August 2010

FREE Event for KS3 & KS4 teachers

Thursday 20 May 4.15pm – 6.00pm

Join us for a special exhibition preview and gallery tour with Richard Scarry, Executive Director of the Corey Helford Gallery, LA.  Prior to the tour, we welcome you from 4.15pm for tea/coffee and cake and an opportunity to chat to learning staff about visiting the exhibition with your students.

The exhibition showcases new work by 49 emerging and noted US contemporary artists and includes painting, sculpture, printing, stencil, photography and digital art.  The work sees a rejection of conceptual art in favour of a focus on technical skill and narrative, often with a figurative focus.  Many of the artists began careers in illustration, tattooing and comic books and make references to popular music and kitsch with a reconnection to past art movements such as surrealism, American realism, and Pop art.
